Department of Licensing and Regulation records 1971-1998, 2002-2006

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation--and its predecessor the Texas Department of Labor and Standards (1973-1989)--is charged with the administration and enforcement of industrial laws affecting the welfare (including health and safety) of employees, employers and the general public in Texas. In 1989, purely labor functions were transferred to the Texas Employment Commission, and the new Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation became the state's umbrella occupational regulatory agency, responsible for the regulation of 23 occupations and industries. These functions (particularly the latter) are documented in these records, which include minutes, summaries of minutes, agenda, meeting attachments (correspondence, memoranda, reports, rules, litigation, attendance sheets, transcripts, etc.), press releases, and a brochure, dating 1971-1998 and 2002-2006.
